Spiritual Cleansing of Indian Society

Gurucharanam Saranam

Spiritual Cleansing of Indian Society

Mukundan P.R.

It would be outrageous if it is stated that the problem of poverty in India is due to her spiritual background. Indian people are known for their great spirituality, but spirituality when practiced not in agreement with Yugadharma or as per the evolutionary character of the ages (Manvantara order), it becomes counterproductive, like the usage of expired medicine. The problem of poverty, in its social and individualized nature, has a spiritual aspect because poverty is the expression of the subjective deficiency in a person or society. The gross world of our experience springs from or is a reflection of the subtle dimension of our thoughts, beliefs and actions. In other words it is the status of the soul or the subjective dimension which determines the quality of our life and environment.

We cannot change the scenario of poverty without a qualitative change in the soul status. For example, many homeless people in Kerala were given homes free of cost by a government scheme. Age-old miseries and spiritual ignorance had made quite few of them pathetic drunkards. Within a short period, they sold their houses and became homeless again. A house under the canopy of the Creator is a divine blessing. We can help a homeless person. But the most enduring help would be elevating persons and societies subjectively so that the blessings of life never depart from them.

If religious beliefs lead to fundamentalism and extremism, if it causes fissures in the society, if it produces poverty and moral depravity, if it does not uplift human spirit to the vitality of truth, then it means that a spiritual distortion has taken place, calling for a positive social intervention. It necessitates a new method, to revitalize and rehabilitate the human spirit. We have found from our experience that what is needed is not the revitalization of old doctrines, but a spirituality that could practically uplift us to a new height of social and spiritual transformation in accordance with the evolutionary character of this age, Kaliyuga.

Whenever, whenever societies have come under the weight of regressive traditions and belief systems, they have suffered socially, politically and economically. We all know that the pagan ancient religions of Rome, Greece and Egypt were replaced with new monotheistic doctrines and belief systems, bringing about great social change. It was after this cultural and spiritual renaissance, the western societies evolved to play a leadership role in the world. Almost the entire world has now come under the influence of western culture. In the medieval period, the Arab and Persian civilizations became formidable when Islam crushed the pagan tradition and began to follow monotheistic religion. Similarly, no one can deny the strong influence of Buddhism in the rise of Japan, China and other countries in the Far East.

The relation between spiritual movements and economic and socio-political development is very obvious one. The common thread in all the above examples is a departure from the old customs and beliefs and courting of a more egalitarian spiritual path based on the belief in a monotheistic vision of God. All these are historical examples for the upgradation of the subjective status of societies through spiritual intervention. However, India remained isolated from this spiritual emergence after the time of Buddha. India remained locked in an island of cultural and spiritual malignancy. The history of her cultural and political enslavement and the depressed state of the majority of her people continues to this day. The economic and social deprivation of the underprivileged should be studied in this historical context of cultural and spiritual isolation.

India is the ancient land of the wisdom of sages, whose spirits enliven the spiritual sky of the world. Her development and progress is aligned to the egalitarian path of the Rishis. The spiritual heart of India needs regeneration. Her people should be liberated from the negative spiritual and cultural influences of the past, competing sects and castes. The befuddling ideology of unity in diversity is a meek expression of the helplessness of Hindus in particular and of others in general. India continues to remain in the secondary school of primitive (pagan) worship. India should graduate to a strictly monotheistic tradition under a strong spiritual leadership. It can help India emerge as a global spiritual power. But it is quite understandable that the question of spiritual leadership is not a simple one.

The Indian culture is based on the spiritual regime of the Rishis. India venerated Sri Ram in the Treta Yuga and Sri Krishna in Dwapara Yuga as they were the spiritual authorities of those ages. But when it came to Kaliyuga, India lost its spiritual track. It wallows still under the serfdom of devas unable to understand the true message of Sri Krishna, Sri Buddha and other sages regarding the worship pattern of Kaliyuga. Puranas state that in Kaliyuga 'naama samkirtanam' or chanting of God's name is the way. But whose name? One has no proper information on this. One view is that the name of the Supreme Guru of this Kali age should be chanted. But that Guru should have crossed all spiritual planes and realized the truth of Brahman. That Guru should at least have fulfilled and crossed the trimurty stage (deva stage) in spirituality and should function as per the Will of Brahman .He should function with the knowledge of three fold cosmic time and also should be receiving 'darshan' or spiritual vision from the Light of Brahman to guide mankind in all matters. After Sri Krishna in Dwapara Yuga, we do not know which spiritual master and his lineage has been born in this Kaliyuga fulfilling these conditions.

When India falters, the whole world gets spiritually lost. If it is stated that all the problems of the world today have originated from the spiritual error of India, it would be too difficult for us to comprehend. But believe beyond doubt that India is the spiritual center of the universe. It is God’s Will. Let us not forget that the world is established on spiritual truths of cosmic dimension. and India alone is the custodian of that spiritual wisdom. This Kaliyuga has brought India good tides of luck through the birth and life mission of Navajyoti Sri Karunakra for the spiritual cleansing of Indian society, to evolve it into its true pristine spiritual status.

A New Powerful Age of Spirituality

Gurucharanam Saranam

A New Powerful Age of Spirituality

Mukundan P.R.

How beautiful is the idea of the Upanishadic rishis who declared that ‘by knowing which everything becomes known, know that as the Truth’. How scientific is this declaration, which sounds like the computer terminology in the modern age. The rishis could understand the true nature of human problems of diversity, contradictions and conflicts in life through such abstraction. The myriad confusing experiences and pictures of life could be condensed to a few fundamental truths and traits of human beings. When we casually glance through the data, sounds and pictures that are being incessantly thrown up through all types of media around us, we become acutely aware of the tremendous diversities of human mind and pursuits. The cyber world has become a virtual waste basket in which everyone can litter one’s thoughts and mind bits. When we flick through this vast junk of bottomless thoughts, the truth becomes clear that humanity is far distanced from the abstract thinking mode of the rishis.

Those few who do think are still in the thinking mode of a distant past. Those who do not think are blissfully enslaved in the cage of a sensual world. The thinkers and philosophers have no new coats to wear. The prime movers of the society are not the market forces - industries, business houses, politicians and so on. They are only vendors and collaborators of consumerism. The march of mankind depends on radical ideas and philosophy of life. Human civilizations indeed are hinged on the spiritual discoveries of mankind. But what is the state of spirituality today? The present day spirituality is like a stagnated pool on the surface of which are the morass of past ages and the stink of an unworkable spirituality. Unworkable because it cannot lift the colossal weight of the ignorance of the present day human society to a new uplifting spirituality and social transformation because it is either time barred or emasculated of all spiritual strength.

There is an epochal change which beckons a new powerful age of spirituality. The rishis called it as yugadharma, aeonic spiritual change as per the whirling wheel of time. And this spiritual transition is gleaming increasingly like the faint rumble of lightning in the distant horizon. Hearken! The tongues of fire emerging from thither are the words of Navajyoti Sri Karunakara Guru. The time of divine downpour is coming! Be ready, O’ men! The freshness and fragrance of Guru’s teachings emit a new ray of hope, full of beauty and spiritual joy. It can bind humanity together, in a single thread, like the idea of the Upanishadic rishis that seeks abstraction in the idea of the Divine.

Impending Spiritual Transition of Humanity

Gurucharanam Saranam

Impending Spiritual Transition of Humanity

Mukundan P.R.

True globalization can happen only on the foundation of a global spiritual vision, a spiritual vision that does not balkanize spirituality. What we require today is a path of spiritual discovery that helps our transition into a higher plane of consciousness. Only standing upon the plateau of such a higher spiritual consciousness, the modalities for peace, value and progress could be evolved for a just global order. This age demands such a spiritual transition. The present day conflicts, disparities and disquiet are not indicative of a hopeless future, but are the signs of an impending spiritual change as per a perfect cosmic plan governing the universe. We only have to open our eyes to discover its presence, coming out of our spiritual ghettos. Perhaps, the present day talk of globalization, though on a wrong footing, may be a prelude to that change.

Well known Theosophist Helena Petrovna Blavatsky wrote that human civilization originated from what she called as ‘Root Races’. According to her, there are seven root races in a cycle of creation. The present one is the fifth Root Race progenerated from Vaivasata Manu. She further explained that each Root Race has its distinct characteristics according to a pre-destined plan in the evolution of human civilization. Blavatsky was only affirming the Manvantara order mentioned by the ancient Indian Rishis. However, the Manvantara order as per the Indian spiritual schools differs slightly from Blavatsky. While Blavatsky described that the present Root Race of Vaivaswata Manu is the fifth root race, according to Indian schools of thought, it is the 7th Root Race.

It is mentioned to drive home the fact that human race has a common origin from a common progenitor and therefore, the oneness of humanity is an inherent truth in nature. The racial and geographical fragmentation of humanity occurred because of an ideological slip in the Root Race many aeons ago. The consequent ideological spilling caused identical balkanization in customs, habits and culture of man. Human movements across land and sea further developed into different racial and ethnic communities. It is ideology that separated humans at the root level which manifests in all levels of human civilization beginning from an individual to a family, society and to nations in the world.

The world today appears steeped in so much diversity. To harmonize humanity into the concept of Oneness, one has to begin from the ideological aspect. Man has to retrace his steps from the ideological diversities to the original source where harmonizing of diverse ideologies take place. Even a single global language could be a reality if man retraces his steps to the source of oneness. Only such an ideological base can unite mankind. Of course, humanity has to travel a long distance before reaching that shore of ideological oneness. Therefore true globalization can take place only when this ideological integration is reached. The present economic globalization is perhaps the forerunner of such an integration. One cannot also deny that the present changes brought about by economic globalization, however unpleasant that may be, is helping humanity to evolve from the local versions of human exploitation and retrogressive ideologies.

Human civilization is in the threshold of change. A great evolution in the spiritual thinking of man is taking place. Sri Aravind Ghosh referred this as the Supramental transformation of human race. Mankind has to lift itself gradually from the lower spiritual levels in which they are currently locked in to higher spiritual embankments. The cosmic time order is propelling humanity to such a spiritual transition. It is a journey to Root Consciousness through multi-layered chests of consciousness. The present spiritual and ideological perplexity and the consequent disquiet in the world are due to mankind’s dislocation from that basic source. The ideology of Navajyoti Sri Karunkara Guru is to rouse humanity to that impending spiritual transition for a global world order based on true dharma peculiar to this age.

India Wronged Spiritually?

Gurucharanam Saranam

India Wronged Spiritually?

Mukundan P.R.

Warning: Do not discard your allegiance to the gods unless you are fully acculturated in the path of the Rishis or Gurumargam, it can be dangerous.

Very few people might be aware or might have thought that India’s problems of poverty, corruption and social distortions are due to her wronged spirituality. Wronged spirituality, not lack of spirituality! Whenever and wherever dharma is wronged that society suffers and it is true in India’s case. But this truth is covered up by the learned pundits as well as the pauperized ignorant people of India. India’s rise is prevented by the weight of an outdated version of spirituality, polluted and fragmented internally and degrading socially. This wronged version of Hinduism is popularized through a temple culture, the distinct features of which are an iniquitous caste system and worship of gods and demigods. The price India and the people of India have paid during the last thousand years and are still paying for this great spiritual aberration is very high. India should return to the source of its spiritual wisdom, the Rishi tradition, which venerates the Absolute Truth of Brahman than the blind supplication to thirty three billion gods and an ugly forced veneration of caste hierarchy.

‘Apoojya-poojane chaiva poojyaanaam-apyapoojane, Narah patanam-aapnoti mahadwai naatra samshayah’, says Kurma Purana. By not revering those who are to be revered and revering those who are not to be revered, that society goes to utter ruin. And India has been utterly ruined by the veneration of venerable gods and demigods in contravention of yugadharma. India forgot the Supreme Brahman and the venerable Rishis in the lineage of Manu. Don’t the Hindus know the spiritual status of demigods and devas? Don’t the Hindus know that the abode of sages and rishis are higher than the gods and devas? They know and the devas too know it. The gods always revered the rishis. The puranas are full of such knowledge. Otherwise how can Brigu Maharshi kick Maha Vishnu on his chest with his feet! How can the king of gods Indra beg pardon from Atri Maharshi for the escape from a curse? The great Vishwamitra Maharshi, challenged Brahma, the creator and proceeded to create an alternative universe itself! He was stopped doing so by the request of gods. Then whom should we follow, the great rishis or the gods? We should follow the rishis. The Buddhists, the Sikhs, the Jains, the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims understood it. They followed Gurumargam, the path of the Buddha, Guru Nanak, Mahavir, Moses, Jesus and Mohammed and they prospered and were blessed to that extent.

Why and when did the gods and devas begin to be extolled here sidelining the great rishis, the repositories of highest spiritual wisdom and God realization and through whom alone mankind can hope for spiritual uplift? Was it for the sake of the Vedic priests, because their livelihood depended on temples? At least now they can change, as very few of them depend on temple craft now. O’ priests! At least now you can release India from these spiritual wrongs, which your innocent ancestors inflicted upon the great Indian civilization. And you smug Media and the sleepy Intelligentsia, wake up! You heed not the sages of this country and their spiritual mission, with full of ignorance, arrogance and ridicule inside you. But their message cannot be trifled down and trampled upon. India will rise again and so too the Rishi tradition. It is the requirement of this age, the yuga dharma.

The Manus, the Origin of Sin and Trimurti Tradition

Gurucharanam Saranam

The Manus, the Origin of Sin and Trimurti Tradition

Mukundan P.R.

Manus are the primordial human ancestors who guide mankind in the matter of dharma and spiritual realization. The whole mankind is the progeny of Manu. The words Man and Manushya originated from Manu. The primal father of humanity is thus one, the Manu. Sagely incarnations come into the world from time to time from the lineage of Manu in order to guide mankind. It is this concept of Sanatana dharma which gives it the resilience and tolerance to respect other spiritual masters, be they from any continent, class or caste, community or belief systems so long they preach the oneness of humanity as well as the fundamental values that govern human life. The Almighty guides the world through such spiritual masters who manifest from time to time from the Manu lineage.

The epoch of a Manu is known as Manvantara. It is related to the age of the universe and measurement of human evolution through time zones such a Manvantara, chaturyugas (age quartets) and yugas (aeons). These segments of time as aforesaid said are under the spiritual authority of Manus, the primal ancestors who reign spiritually over every Manvantara. There are the clusters of 14 such Manus and Manvantaras constituting a Kalpa – a span of evolution and dissolution. Time is calculated by years, months and days as per the movement of the sun and planets in relation to the earth. Kalpa, Manvantara, Chaturyuga and Yugas are larger time segments for the calculation of cosmic time. Each Manvantara has been further split into 71 chaturyugas. Presently the world is passing through the first quarter of Kali yuga, i.e. the 28th chaturyuga of the 7th Manvantara.

Everything went on fine until the 3rd chaturyuga of this Manvantara when a sage, the spiritual authority in the lineage of Manu, erred in his spiritual understanding. The name of the sage thus erred was Satya Trana. This is a new revelation that goes back to the spiritual history of the 3rd Chaturyuga. This revelation surpasses the vision of saints, sages and prophets of known human history. Even the Vedas, the earliest scripture of mankind do not mention about this spiritual cataclysm or original mistake.

Having experienced the nature of indivisible consciousness, Satyatrana took himself to be the ultimate truth, Brahman, the Almighty God. An individual, though he might realize God or the indivisibility of consciousness, cannot equal himself to the Almighty, the inconceivable and unknowable. It was an egoistic perception. As a consequence of this mistake, a curse came forth from Brahman, the Almighty God. As a result of the curse, from the 3rd chaturyuga to 7th chaturyuga, the world passed through a long age of darkness and barrenness. Until the 7th chaturyuga, the world was plunged in spiritual darkness.

The memory of Manu was lost to mankind due to the mistake happened in the Manu lineage. World began to move on the crippled legs of dharma from then on. Utterances like ‘Aham Brahmasmi’ (I am God), Tat Twam Asi (You Are That), Ayam Atma Brahma (This Self is Brahman), Pragyanam Brahm (Consciousness is Brahman) etc. began to be taught and accepted as highest wisdom. It was like a drop of water from the ocean claiming the status of the enormous ocean itself. The divine dharma was tainted by the ego of man. This history of the origin sin is never before revealed in any scriptures.

Thereafter, when the sages prayed for light and the pious thirsted for the mercy of God, Almighty authorized three spiritual powers– Brahma, Vishnu and Siva, as the medium of spiritual enlightenment. This was in the 7th chaturyuga. Therefore, the version in the scriptures that the world was created by Brahma is not correct. It was an imposition in the absence of the memory of Manu, the primal father. The history of Brahma began only in the 7th chaturyuga when the trimurty tradition commenced. By and by, after the 12th Chaturyuga, the error of Satyatrana was repeated in the Trimurty tradition too. Brahma, Vishnu and Siva were equated with Brahman, the Almighty God. After many ages, this is now the 28th chaturyuga. The name of Manu had been forgotten, the time order of Manu was altered and in place of Manu, Brahma was installed as the progenitor of mankind.

Great souls with immense spiritual power but tainted by egoistic visions and realizations fell from the grace of God. They remain as spiritual pollutants in various astral spheres blocking the spiritual progress of humanity. The spiritual pollution of last 25 chaturyugas (3rd to 28th chaturyuga) thus exists in the world which is standing as a hurdle in the path of man’s spiritual progress. These deviated souls include yogis, sages and spiritual masters with great spiritual accomplishments and wondrous divine powers (siddhi) are standing in various astral dimensions as spiritual pollutants.

These spiritually fallen souls have harmed several great souls who came to redeem mankind from the spiritual fall. The revelation from the Light of Brahman to Santhigiri is that 2444 great souls have been sent by Almighty God since the dawn of this Kali yuga in different parts of the world to rectify this spiritual error and re-establish the ancient-most spiritual path ordained by the Almighty, i.e. Sanatana Dharma. The dimension of the pain and persecution undergone by these great souls is not perceived clearly as it is covered in the jargon of religious dogma. In one or other dimension, the efforts of the sages and prophets have been blocked by these estranged spiritual powers known as Yogabhrashta, Satan or jinnee. This explains the present spiritual stalemate in the world. Since the error occurred in India, the correction should also begin from India. Therefore, the responsibility of leading mankind spiritually rests on India.

The world is yet to wake up to the Godly Light that has made known the above said revelations - the truth of the spiritual pollution affecting the world, the episode of the original sin of mankind and the subsequent spiritual fall and the institution of the mediation of Trimurty tradition, the divine scheme of the Manvantaras, the divine interventions in the rectification of the error in the present age, the persecution of the prophets and sages in the hands of opposing spiritual forces and finally the manifestation of that Godly Light amongst us in the form of Navajyoti Sri Karunakara Guru, the founder Guru of Santhigiri Ashram, on whose auspices this effort is being made to unite all religions in the oneness of God and humanity. The ideology of Santhigiri, therefore, links all religions in a single chord of historical evolution with a hope to unite mankind. This hope attains significance in the present period of spiritual perplexity and social discord.

An Appeal to All Blessed Souls

Gurucharanam Saranam

An Appeal to All Blessed Souls

Mukundan P.R.

Great preceptors (rishis) impart the guidelines of dharma in each age - the cosmic scheme behind life and the duty of man according to the aeonic changes. The Rishis are considered the guiding authorities on dharma, justice and duty owing to their omniscience, life of self-abnegation and spiritual elevation. But due to our ignorance, we still follow rituals and traditions that create divisiveness and disharmony in the society. The ‘sudra’ represents the ignorant and downtrodden class in the world whose spiritual and materialistic elevation is destined to be actualized in this age. But for its realization, they require the guidance of an omniscient seer, who could show them the path of liberation.

The Brahmic Will to be self responsible for the divine dispensation for god realization existed from the beginning of creation itself and continues incessantly. It is the same godly will that manifests as the Subtle Being, Godhead, as a Deva, Sanyasi (sage) or a Rishi and accepts worship through these mediums in the course of ages. But there is a concept known as Yuga Dharma. Different aeons like Krita, Treta and Dwapara had their characteristic dharmic dispensation, which in the present age – Kaliyuga undergoes significant changes. These changes in the dharmic code (Yuga Dharma) are brought about by great seers of transcendental knowledge, who manifest as the embodiment of enlightenment and divine abstraction as willed by God.

Even during the ages of Treta and Dwapara that were oriented for polytheistic worship of Devi-Deva (gods and goddesses), the words of Rishis, the enlightened seers were depended upon as the guiding principles. At the time of Maharaja Janak, the judgments in regard to dispensation of justice were taken by the wives of Yagnavalkya, the great rishi of that age. They had the divine insight to decide on matters of justice without even seeing the contestants, the accused or the accuser. The blind folded goddess of wisdom has been accepted as the symbol of justice even today. Despite differences in rituals, in the matters of justice, the words of a seer (jnani) are taken as authoritative. The uniqueness of the Indian spirituality or Sanatana Dharma is this tradition.

We are ignorant about the differences in the result (virtue, punya) earned from the observance of customs, rituals and worship followed by us at the present time. Due to the moral degeneration and lack of virtue in conduct, majority of people have become ‘Sudra’. The word Sudra here includes people from all castes – Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaisya and Sudra. All ignorant and fallen people irrespective of caste, color, nationality and religious denominations are termed as Sudra, a qualitative term. As per the four fold caste system, the present age Kaliyuga belongs to the Sudra class for their uplift and enlightenment. The term ‘Sudra’ used here, as already mentioned, is a qualitative term used in a universal sense and includes Christians, Muslims, Budhists, Jains etc. and also the spokesmen of the modern computer age and the apostles of various ideologies and concepts. Therefore the word ‘Sudra’ embraces both the potentialities and also its limitations. The limitation of the Sudra is that he has no wisdom to dive deep into the spiritual light hidden in the historical past and apply it in life in the present age so as to enhance and enrich the glitter of his or her soul through a noble and righteous path of action.
According to Manu, the ancient law giver, this fourth age of Kali is earmarked for the Sudra for his liberation and enlightenment. But we should not think lightly of our lack of awareness and inability to understand the demerits in the customs, rituals and worship we follow at the present age, which are incapable either to liberate us from our (negative) karmic mould or to give us the blissful evolutionary soul experience. We might see the observance of caste system as insignificant which created the evils of social barriers and discriminations; we might ignore too the ignorance that termed spiritual consciousness as communalism. But how do we evaluate the corruption in the path of eternal dharma proclaimed by the Rishis in accordance with the Will of Brahman? How do we see the vested interests that disturbed the harmony at home causing motherly and fatherly curse and sorrow?

How can you justify the horrendous actions by which sinners who are useless for their home as well as the society, performing evil actions and accumulating great burden of sin, at last adorn the clothes of a Sanyasi, get elevated in the society with the support of caste or religion? How can you justify the wicked action of those men who castigated and belittled the sages, the embodiment of sacrifice and divine enlightenment and from whose mind, the pearls of wisdom churned out of the ocean of transcendental truth emerge; of those who raise the men of letters (mere scholars) to the pedestal of seers thus destroying the divine tenderness of dharma? The Sudra, the fourth in the caste hierarchy has got the right by divine decree to earn the karmic and ancestral purity required for the birth of noble souls and experience godly realization in this age. He has also got the luck to safeguard the oneness of mankind till the end of creation. But in whom does the karmic virtue exists to lead him to this goal – in the depth of the heart of a Seer or in some tantric rituals?

The Tantric and Vedic rituals and chants which were reverberating in the last century have almost come to a stop. Sri Marthanda Verma, the Travancore Maharaja used to feed thousands of Brahmins and give away handfuls of gift to them in expiation of sins, but for the last forty years the ceremony has become lifeless; the noble minded give importance to ‘Sadhu Pooja’ – the worship of sages than to the feeding of Brahmins. Who are the Sadhus or the Sanyasis? Is he a lowly beggar who has lost all hopes in life due to penury and lack of virtue or are they the ones who get afflicted by incurable diseases owing to their vices and sin and as a last resort adorn the clothes of a Sanyasi? No, on the contrary, as mentioned before, the seers are great souls who have sacrificed their life, body and mind for the cause of dharma. We should expect the fulfilling action that would be venerated by the ensuing generation, not only in our land but all over the world, only from such seers. The purity of their heart symbolizes the weighing scale of dharma and adharma. They are the divine personification of sacrifice and austerity.
What the world searches today with a longing heart is for such a seer of sacrifice through whom the grand unfoldment, development and fulfillment of Yuga Dharma is to take place. Do we respect that Universal Guru seated in the hearts of Krishna, Buddha, and Christ, Prophet Mohammed, Janaka, Vishwamitra, Maitreyi and Gargi imparting eternal, transcendental enlightenment? If we are waiting for the coming of that great Soul, the leading Light of the five-fold Gurus, the protector and elucidator of the concept of Yuga Dharma, why do we open ‘Bala Gokulams’ all along the roadside? Would we have been celebrating Krishna Leela which reminds us of the ‘Deva Dasi’ system rooted in base sensual enjoyment instead of the noble thoughts on God? Would we ever try to portray Lord Krishna who for the first time blew his Panchajanya for the establishment of Yuga Dharma as the lustful, sensual ‘Gopala Krishna’ through texts like Gita Govindam - creations out of great ignorance? Whatever it is, we are also the inheritors of that pernicious tragedy.

It may be due to the fact that we are also part of that sinful tradition we could not well understand Guru (Navajyoti Sree Karunakara Guru) and the Santhigiri Guru parampara. Nevertheless, Santhigiri Guru Parampara has reached the penultimate peak of luck. We have discovered the deposits of transcendental truth in the boundaries of Guru Parampara, born from the sacrifices of Guru. Through this medium God has prepared for us, in the form of Navajyoti Sree Karunakara Guru, we have become the possessors of Cosmic Mind. Like Gargis and Maitreyi, the Jananis (Sanyasinis in Santhigiri Ashram) blessed with transcendental vision ennoble this Guru lineage through the worship of Guru.

This Guru Parampara which receives revealed words from Brahman, the Supreme Light of God promises the certitude of the divine birth of great seers, the initiators of great concepts, like Janaka and Vishwamitra in the coming ages. (It refers to the performance of ‘Guru Pooja’ in Santhigiri Ashram, by which Guru cleanses the ancestral and spiritual impurities and debilities and through which a generation with mental and physical prowess would take birth in the families thus purified by Guru).

In the divine experience of great souls, they see Guru as the illumination of all godly abstractions and the ever lasting, sublime light of love. We consider this glory as the ultimate path of refuge for all people and the entire creation. Lo, through that path of protection, we first walk, nearer and nearer. O Guru, you are enthroned as all Godly abstractions and divine consecrations. You exist as the Cosmic Will and the glorious abode of our veneration.

Submitting our prostrations at your holy feet, we purify the flaws in our ancestry, spiritual practices and customs and also find a solution to the familial curses and sorrows of our mothers and fathers. We have become singers of the glory of the universal path of liberation. We have fulfilled through this the prayer of great sages, the result of their penance of several ages. This path of purity is the fulfillment of God’s wish from the inception of creation itself.

We, the Santhigiri parampara, submit this in front of the whole world with a prayer for the mercifulness of Guru.

Spiritual Cleansing - Gurupooja at Santhigiri

Gurucharanam Saranam

Spiritual Cleansing - Gurupooja at Santhigiri
(Sacred words of Navajyoti Sri Karunakara Guru)

Translated from the original Malayalam

We fought one another remaining in a system which laid down that we should not touch, step into, accept or perceive the sanctified aspect within all performances. In that fight, varnashrama dharma was lost and the caste system arose. The castes were also not to touch one another. All the karmas were hit by this system. We (at Santhigiri) are taking back that bruised karma, which many had tried in vain earlier. Santhigiri’s karma is directed at reverting to the caste-less state and not at devoleping a sanyasa cult. Nor is it aimed at tracing the root of the Indian civilization with a view to retrieve it. It is not necessary to lift it up. Because this is Kali: The dharma of Kali is not to step on the shoulder of the errors that have arisen in the whole world and then revive it. Our karma as well as the dharma of Kali is to wipe out the aspect of error.

In this karma, both the genders of householders should earn a great level. The householder-life (grihasthashram) is a great concept wherein a householder elevates himself (in such a manner) that through his offspring and lineage, he acquires the intelligence to rule the world; the karma (way of action) to impart goodness to the world or even become capable of assuming the role of the protectors of the world or its motherhood. Without knowing this, you live and perish as opportunists.
You don’t know what God-worship is. You do not know even to act distinguishing what is the Householder, Sanyasi, Yogi and Karmi. None of these karmas is now with us. Our success in life lies in retrieving them. This is the first effort in the world (in this direction). No where else has this effort taken place. Let it come if it is going to come elsewhere. We have reached the stage of the humbleness of the performance of God’s creative contemplation.

When I first reached this place for the actualization of this performance, I was told not to stay where I could be seen by two persons together. Many sort of things happened here at that period. The people of this place also know some of it, but their knowing was of no avail. When I first made a hut here, I handed over its care to some local residents here. And you came in (here) witnessing their fall. What is that fall like? These people had come and witnessed the happenings here. Despite many events which took place in front of them, being caught by cognitive lacking, they were distanced (from here) forever in a manner that it is impossible for them to come back or take it back. Some of them repent today saying that it was (their) flawed action. However, there is no use of their saying so.

The karma now being performed here today is aimed at moulding such offspring who can give birth to the array of deva (god), devi (goddess), rishi (seer), sanyasi (renunciate) and jnanis (the wise) who were worshipped by our forefathers with love and reverence. Nobody who came until now has done this performance, for God has not ordained them for it. But God has granted us that karma. You should realize that, but you fail to understand it in whatever way it is said. In this institution, where more than 15,000 families performed Gurupooja, there are no people even countable by fingers who live knowing it in that greatness. How will you then discern this karma? Many children of this place who were once associated with this have forgotten this. I have not told them anything. Whenever they come to me, sometimes I try to prick them saying it like a story, but they have no pain. Why so? Because all of us are the progeny of people who have read the ancient tales and epics like a story and, turning that story into play, made it into recklessness.

When it is mentioned that our subject is to correct this ignorance - what becomes necessary is your children. But they are not able to be brought forward because the dharma by which we worshipped, and were made to worship with the offerings of love and wealth, is entangled with our soul. (Such being the truth), when a girl is born, she is led away from her virtues in such a manner that her goodness is unable to be known. When a male-child is born, he is transformed into a drunkard in such a manner that he is unable to know what duty he has towards the world. There is a great effort in changing these vices. This effort in one way is good. For, at least, for that sake, you would get in contact (with Guru) and act.

There’s a saying among us that the husband is God! Is the meaning of this saying then a fool, who fulfilled (his life) with theft and one who has never shown justice to anything? Does it mean an unchaste person who has not learned to live in righteousness, living without humility and virtue, pulling down the undergarment of women? It is all this we are creating and letting out. How can they manage this country? What all this depravity (depredators) cannot perform?

The ‘Gurupooja’ here is the foremost karma which I am doing for this for you. (I am) not talking about its greatness. I don’t understand such greatness. I am not leaned, great by virtue of wealth, capability or education. God has not led me into any such things. But there is one thing. God has granted you a suitable setting where irrespective of your status, you can assemble. And through this, together through you and your offspring, children are taking birth from whom will be born several great souls who are capable to do whatever (good) for the country and indeed the whole world. We don’t know how it is made to happen.

But we do it in the Sankalpa (conception) called ‘Sankalpamathrena Parameswarah’, whereby, after envisioning everything that has come until now in the law of Devi-Devas - giving whatever they require (they are not abandoned) - a way is found by the path shown by God to give them an opportunity to take birth or make them entitled for liberation. We are handling this exactly the way the revelation is received from God to perform this. It’s not performed, as someone might think, attracting some evil spirits by sitting and chanting. Nor is it performed bringing a ‘root’ from the places where I spent life. I have not taken any ‘root’ of others. I have not found a suitable scenario also wherein I could take this ‘root’. There are no suitable ‘roots’ either. In fact, it is being nurtured by scraping off all these ‘bottoms’, then burning them with fire, scooping good mud and then planting the sapling there. What is required for it is, suitable children. You do not know how I perform it. That is my sadness.

What I am making you do is a performance, which, by correcting the flaws in the traditions that have come from the beginning until now in the deva and rishi lineages (trimurty and seer traditions), without exterminating the essence of these lineages, will transform them into a great status. Then how great should be your eminence? It is a performance in humility to bring within you the privilege of not only ancestral souls, gods, goddesses and rishis but even some genderless ghosts also to be born of you (for release). Retaining the truth in that path, transform yourself as the sanctified work emerging from that truth. This is the goal. I have no other rationale or doctrine. I have done this for 15,000 families in this manner, but they are unable to take it. Not merely that but building up contrary attributes in their actions, make it the cause for its destruction. There are about fifteen households who have perished like this in this locality despite performing it with genuine sacrifice, prayers and contemplations; rest of the families (perished) leaving this place.

The ancestors did have (their share of) good and bad (in them). The difficulty was great when these (the deeds of ancestors) were tried to be eliminated. You will understand it when you reflect on the great souls of the past, in order to realize that. But the biographies made up on them are unsuitable for such evaluation.
For instance take ‘Geeta Govindam’. What is the purpose of making children enact Krishnaleela? You are inflating the sensuality already present in them, by adorning and bringing up children in this manner and spoiling them - adding to the fulfilment of such action and taking it up. This is what the Saktheya, Saiva and Vaishnava have done here. You cannot change it at all. This is the fact behind the coming of so many great souls. We don’t have the aptitude to remove it through (our) lifetime. But we have the luck.

You will not be able to find a similar thing (Gurupooja) elsewhere in the world. Nor has it ever happened in the world. In your epics mention is made about the ‘Bhageerata Prayatna’ (the effort of Bhageerata). Bhageerata was a king and he could do many things, but there too, not this. Here, you are endowed with awareness in a manner of witnessing it yourself and accepting with discrimination. God has ordained it for you. It is in the said awareness the deva, devi, rishi, monk, jnani (seer), the devout, the pitru [ancestral souls] are all guided and placed in auspicious constellations. Your children, after living truthfully, are entering into that constellation. Even if you are unable to become so, it should be made possible through your children. This is the great work that you do for the world. After performing this (Gurupooja) for you, I am guiding you how you should live till the birth of a progeny. (However), you do not understand that. Instead, making your children listen and obey, describing it as some other big thing, you are not allowing them to come in front, in (the matter of) dharma.
